We all have our passions and desires, rooted often in a childhood experience. For me, movies are my passion. Raised by TCM thanks to my folks, I have been in awe of cinema from a very young age. Plenty of John Wayne westerns, classic black & white noirs as well as Laurel & Hardy, The Three Stooges and The Twilight Zone to cover TV shows. Little did I know this would set the foundation of movie watching for me and would stay with me the rest of my life.
The first film I can recall watching in the movie theatre was Steven Spielberg's "Hook". I was 5 years old, looking up at a fantastical story about Peter Pan as an adult, returning to Neverland. At the time, I was simply amazed at the spectacle. The pirate ships, the costumes, "the boo box", and Rufio's killer mohawk were cemented into my mind. As a... "stocky" kid, I had my first emotional reaction to a film at the end of the movie when Peter gives his sword to Thud (the thicker lost boy). From that moment on, I realized that there is a real magic and power to this form of story telling.
Fast forward, to my 20's, I studied film & media in college and went on to make several small projects and work as an intern at a major television studio. An incredible experience, but life does not wait and I ended up getting into the workforce, leaving aspirations of working in the media space behind. From working in retail, hospitality, customer service to restaurant and tech industries, I have never been able to lose the itch to be a part of the film community.
That brings us to today. Watching more movies than I ever have in my life (shoutout to Letterboxd for the inspiration), I feel now is the time to share the power of film with all of you!
Scene This podcast is a very selfish endeavor. Selfish in that I need an outlet to express my thoughts and feelings about the movies I watched, decisions being made in "Hollywood" and an opportunity to exercise my creative muscles. With that said, it is you in mind when putting the show together.
I understand we all have varied levels of time, interest and knowledge about movies and some movie podcast have a difficult barrier for entry as they have a bit of prestige and deep, DEEP knowledge of film that can go over the average movie watchers head. We are aiming to provide a podcast and discussion platform that is welcoming to even the most casual movie watcher. Often times I talk with people that love watching movies, but never know what is currently playing. We will cover that, highlighting upcoming new releases and even provide our reviews.
It does take a lot of effort to produce a podcast, maintain a website, promote through socials and stay consistent, but it is worth it. I want to share the magic I felt when I was 5 years old watching Hook and continue to feel with the nearly two thousand movies I've watched (1,842 to be exact, thanks again Letterboxd). A lot of fun segments and bonus content will evolve as we progress and I hope you join us on our journey. Film is about community and I'm happy to build a new community with you all!
Excellent ! Go for it
